Stokesértékek

Stokesértékek refers to a unit of kinematic viscosity. Kinematic viscosity is a measure of a fluid's resistance to flow under gravitational forces. It is defined as the ratio of the dynamic viscosity of the fluid to its density. The standard SI unit for kinematic viscosity is the square meter per second (m²/s).

The Stokes is a CGS (centimeter-gram-second) unit. One Stokes is equal to one centimeter squared per second (cm²/s). This means that a fluid with a kinematic viscosity of 1 Stokes would have a viscosity of 1 cm²/s. The centistoke (cSt) is a more commonly used sub-unit, where 1 Stokes is equal to 100 centistokes. Therefore, 1 centistoke is equal to 1 mm²/s.

The concept of viscosity is important in many fields, including fluid dynamics, engineering, and material science. For example, in lubrication, the kinematic viscosity of oils is a critical factor in determining their effectiveness. In meteorology, the viscosity of air and water plays a role in weather patterns. The Stokes unit, though a non-SI unit, is still encountered in some industries and older literature. Conversion between Stokes and the SI unit is straightforward: 1 Stokes = 0.0001 m²/s, and 1 centistoke = 0.000001 m²/s.
