Coefficients in the balanced equation represent the molar ratios. For example, in the reaction 2 H2 + O2 -> 2 H2O, the ratio of hydrogen to oxygen to water is 2:1:2. This means that for every 2 moles of hydrogen reacting with 1 mole of oxygen, 2 moles of water are produced.

To perform stoichiometric calculations, one typically converts the given mass of a substance into moles using its molar mass. Then, using the molar ratios from the balanced equation, the moles of the desired substance are calculated. Finally, this mole quantity can be converted back to mass if needed. Stoichiometry is a crucial tool in chemistry, essential for laboratory experiments, industrial processes, and understanding chemical transformations. It ensures efficiency and predictability in chemical synthesis and analysis.
