Stilgar

Stilgar is a fictional character in Frank Herbert's Dune series. He is a Fremen leader on the desert planet Arrakis and serves as the Naib, or chief, of the sietch Tabr, one of the major Fremen communities. A skilled warrior and pragmatic diplomat, Stilgar embodies the Fremen code of honor, discipline, and loyalty to his people.

Stilgar becomes a key ally of Paul Atreides, known to the Fremen as Muad’Dib, after Paul and his mother, Lady Jessica, are taken in by the Fremen. He advocates for Paul’s integration into Fremen society and supports his rise to leadership. During the campaigns that follow, Stilgar commands Fremen forces in battles against the Harkonnens and the imperial power structures that seek to control Arrakis and its spice.

Culturally, Stilgar upholds Fremen customs, including the water ethic that governs life on Arrakis, and the use of crysknives in ceremonial and combat contexts. He is portrayed as calm, austere, and principled, balancing the possibility of fanaticism with a focus on practical outcomes for his people.
