Sticklingsstadier is a term used in plant propagation that refers to the distinct developmental phases a cutting undergoes from the time it is taken from a parent plant until it successfully establishes as an independent plant. These stages are crucial for understanding and optimizing the rooting process.

The first stage is the wounding phase, where the cutting is separated from the mother plant, creating a cut surface. This is followed by the callus formation stage, during which undifferentiated cells at the wound site proliferate, forming a soft, fleshy mass called callus. This callus tissue is vital for initiating root development.

Next comes the root initiation stage, where specialized cells within or adjacent to the callus begin to differentiate and form root primordia, which are the precursors to roots. This is a critical and often sensitive phase.

The elongation and development stage follows, where the root primordia grow and elongate, eventually emerging from the callus and penetrating the growing medium. This is when visible root structures begin to form.

Finally, the establishment stage occurs when the developing root system becomes functional, absorbing water and nutrients from the substrate. The cutting is now considered to have successfully rooted and is on its way to becoming a mature plant.
