Sterikusság
Sterikusság is a concept related to the spatial arrangement of atoms within molecules. It describes the phenomenon where the volume occupied by atoms or groups of atoms influences the reactivity or stability of a molecule. Essentially, steric hindrance occurs when bulky groups around a reaction center prevent or slow down a chemical reaction by physically blocking the approach of other reactants. This can affect the rate of a reaction, the preferred conformation of a molecule, or the outcome of stereoselective processes.
The presence of large substituents can lead to increased energy barriers for reactions, making them less favorable.
