Stauwarn

Stauwarn is a German-language warning system used to alert drivers of traffic congestion and potential delays on highways and autobahns in Germany. The system uses electronic displays andCMSdevices installed at regular intervals to warn drivers of congested areas, road closures, and other traffic-related hazards.

The Stauwarn system is typically activated when traffic sensors detect a significant buildup of vehicles or a sharp increase in travel time. This information is then relayed to the electronic displays, which show a stylized image of a red exclamation mark (usually followed by a picture of a car, or, alternatively an "=" sign) accompanied by a warning message such as "Stau vor" (traffic congestion ahead) or "Reisezeit verlängert" (extended travel time).

Stauwarn devices can be found along highways and autobahns in Germany, as well as at certain border crossings. They are typically operated by the German Federal Highway Research Institute (BAST) and are designed to reduce the risk of accidents caused by drivers navigating congested or hazardous road conditions. However, the system is not foolproof, and drivers are still advised to use their own judgment when navigating traffic.

It's worth noting that Stauwarn is a widely used system in Germany, but similar systems exist in other countries with labels such as traffic information, traffic warnings, or intelligent transport systems.
