Statyti

Statyti is a Lithuanian verb meaning to build or to erect. It is used for constructing physical structures, such as houses, bridges, or monuments, and also for establishing non-physical constructs, including institutions, systems, or plans. The infinitive form is statyti, and the verb is transitive, typically taking a direct object in the accusative (for example, statyti namą; statyti tiltą).

Because statyti is imperfective, it describes ongoing or repeated action, whereas a corresponding perfective form, pastatyti, emphasizes completion of the act. These two aspects are used to express timelines in construction projects, e.g., pastatyti namą refers to completing the construction.

Usage notes: In everyday Lithuanian, statyti appears in concrete and metaphorical contexts. It can pair with location or starting-point phrases such as is pamatų to indicate starting from the foundations.
