Statistie

Statistie is a term that does not have a stable, widely recognized meaning in standard reference works. It is occasionally encountered in text as a misspelling or as a nonce formation. Because it is not part of the accepted vocabulary in major languages, its meaning depends heavily on context and may reflect a typographical error rather than a distinct concept.

In Dutch, the standard term for the discipline of data collection and analysis is statistiek. The form statistie is not common in contemporary usage; when seen, it is usually regarded as a misspelling or dialectal/archaic variant. Historical texts may show variants, but they are not considered normative or clear indications of a separate concept.

In English-language writing, statistie is not listed in standard dictionaries. It can result from a typographical error for statistic or from a deliberate coinage in discussions about statistics. The common root stat- appears in words such as statistic, statistics, and statistical, all drawing on Latin and Greek sources related to state, data, or standing; however statistie itself does not carry a defined meaning in established usage.

Relation to similarly spelled terms: statist (with an e) denotes a person who advocates statist governance or a political stance, and is distinct from statistic or statistics.
