Sprinklereistä, or sprinkler systems, are an active fire protection method consisting of a water supply system providing adequate pressure with a system of pipes and sprinklers. In a fire event, the heat from the fire activates sprinklers. A sprinkler head contains a heat-sensitive element, such as a glass bulb filled with liquid or a metal alloy. When the temperature reaches a predetermined point, this element breaks or melts, releasing the water.

The activation of a sprinkler head is localized to the area directly affected by the fire, rather than discharging water over an entire building. This targeted approach helps to minimize water damage while effectively controlling or extinguishing the fire. Sprinkler systems can be wet pipe systems, where the pipes are filled with water at all times, or dry pipe systems, where the pipes are filled with pressurized air and water is released only when a sprinkler activates. Other types include preaction and deluge systems, each designed for specific fire risks.

Modern sprinkler systems are highly reliable and play a crucial role in life safety and property protection. They are commonly found in commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and residential complexes.
