Spotsylvania
Spotsylvania is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is situated in the Fredericksburg region of the state, approximately 50 miles south of Washington, D.C. The county was established in 1721 from parts of Essex, King and Queen, and Caroline counties. Its name is derived from the Spotsylvania River, which itself was named after Governor Alexander Spotswood.
