Spirometriska

Spirometriska refers to measurements taken using spirometry, a common pulmonary function test. This non-invasive procedure assesses lung capacity and how quickly air can be inhaled or exhaled. Spirometry is a cornerstone in diagnosing and managing various respiratory conditions. The test involves breathing into a device called a spirometer, which records the volume of air and the rate at which it is moved in and out of the lungs.

Key parameters measured in spirometriska include forced vital capacity (FVC), which is the total amount of air a person can forcibly exhale after taking the deepest possible breath, and forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), the amount of air exhaled in the first second of this forced breath. The ratio of FEV1 to FVC (FEV1/FVC) is also a crucial indicator. Decreased FEV1 and FVC values, or a reduced FEV1/FVC ratio, can suggest obstructive lung diseases like asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Conversely, reduced FVC with a normal FEV1/FVC ratio may point towards restrictive lung diseases, which limit lung expansion. Spirometriska can also be used to monitor the effectiveness of treatments for these conditions.
