Souqli

Souqli is a fictional city-state and cultural region in the continent of Eldara. It encompasses a coastal metropolitan core and surrounding rural districts, with a population centered in the capital, also named Souqli. It is known for a distinctive synthesis of maritime trade traditions and agrarian village life.

The republic occupies a crescent coastline and a river valley, with a climate ranging from humid subtropical to Mediterranean on the coast. Founded as a trade settlement in the 12th century, Souqli gained autonomous status within a regional confederation in the 15th century and became a federal member in the 19th century. In the modern era, it has focused on diversification and regional diplomacy.

The population is around 1.2 million, with major communities including Souli, Arin, and Kemet; official language is Souli, with widespread use of Arcanic and Deltan in education. Religious affiliations are varied, including the Temple of the Sea and minority groups.

Government is a constitutional republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government; unicameral parliament of 62 seats. Economy centers on fishing, shipbuilding, agriculture (citrus, vanilla, olives), and light manufacturing; major ports and a popular tourism sector.

Notable cultural traditions include the Night of Lanterns festival and a traditional brass drum music; cuisine features seafood stews and citrus-infused dishes. The Souli National University leads in marine sciences and regional history.
