Soovitavat

Soovitavat is a form of the Estonian adjective soovitatav, meaning "advisable" or "recommended." The adjective is derived from the verb soovitada, “to advise” or “to recommend,” with the suffix -atav that creates adjectives indicating potential or suitability. In Estonian, adjectives decline to agree with the noun in case and number, and the form soovitatav has several inflected variants, including the partitive singular soovitatavat.

The partitive singular tänu partitive usage appears in phrases such as soovitatavat meetodit or soovitatavat soovitust, where the noun is in the partitive case. In everyday language, the shorter form soovitatav is more common for attributive or predicative use, as in See meetod on soovitatav (“This method is advisable”). The form soovitatavat is therefore primarily encountered in formal, technical, or guideline-style writing where a noun phrase requires the partitive.

Relationship to related forms: soovitatav is closely related to the verb soovitada (to advise/recommend). While soovitavad- forms are used for “they recommend,” and soovitaks- forms express conditional or hypothetical recommendation, soovitatav and its inflected forms function as adjectives describing the advisability or recommended status of a noun.
