Sonnenintensität refers to the amount of solar radiation received per unit area. It is also commonly known as solar irradiance. This intensity is not constant and varies depending on several factors, including the time of day, the season, the geographic location, and atmospheric conditions. At its peak, solar irradiance typically occurs around solar noon when the sun is highest in the sky.

The standard unit for measuring solar intensity is watts per square meter (W/m²). Outside the Earth's atmosphere, the average solar irradiance is approximately 1361 W/m², a value known as the solar constant. However, due to absorption and scattering by the atmosphere, the intensity reaching the Earth's surface is lower. Clouds, aerosols, and water vapor all play a role in reducing the amount of sunlight that penetrates the atmosphere.
