Somatembryogenesis
Somatembryogenesis is a process in which somatic cells, which are any cells in the body other than germ cells, are induced to develop into embryos. This phenomenon is a key aspect of certain regenerative and developmental biology techniques, particularly in plant science, but also holds promise in animal research. In plants, somatembryogenesis can occur spontaneously from explants cultured in vitro or be induced through specific hormonal treatments. These induced somatic embryos then mimic the developmental stages of zygotic embryos, originating from a single somatic cell and progressing through globular, heart, and torpedo stages before developing into a whole plant.
The ability of somatic cells to dedifferentiate, proliferate, and then redifferentiate to form a complete organism
