Solvärmeanläggningar, also known as solar thermal systems, are technologies that capture solar radiation and convert it into heat. This heat is then used for various purposes, primarily for domestic hot water production and space heating in buildings. The core component of a solvärmeanläggning is the solar collector, which is typically mounted on a roof or in an open area exposed to sunlight. Collectors contain a dark absorber surface designed to efficiently absorb solar energy. A fluid, usually a mixture of water and antifreeze, circulates through tubes within the collector, absorbing the heat from the absorber.

This heated fluid is then transported to a storage tank, where it can be stored for later use. In a domestic hot water system, the heated fluid from the collector transfers its heat to the water in the storage tank via a heat exchanger. For space heating, the warmed fluid can be directly circulated through radiators or underfloor heating systems, or it can be used to preheat the water supplied to a conventional heating system.
