Soliris
Soliris, also known by its generic name eculizumab, is a medication used to treat certain rare and serious conditions. It is a monoclonal antibody that targets the complement system, a part of the immune system. Specifically, Soliris inhibits the cleavage of complement protein C5, thereby preventing the formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC), which can damage cells.
The primary indications for Soliris are paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) and atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS).
