Sobisid

Sobisid is a conjugated form of the Estonian verb sobima, which means "to fit" or "to suit." It is used in the past tense with plural subjects, and in English it is commonly translated as "they fit" or "you (plural) fit," depending on the subject of the sentence. It is a standard, everyday word in Estonian and appears in both spoken and written language.

Form and grammar: Sobisid is derived from the verb stem sobi- plus the past-tense plural ending -sid. It agrees with a plural subject in number, as in Nad sobisid hästi ("They fit well"). The corresponding singular past tense form is sobis (for "he/she/it fit"). Like other Estonian verbs, sobisid does not require an explicit subject pronoun when the subject is clear from context.

The form can be used in both literal and figurative senses, such as a plan or arrangement that fits with someone’s abilities or preferences: See plaan sobis temaga hästi. — This plan suited him/her well.
