It serves as a container for application-specific header information that can accompany the main SOAP body. Unlike the SOAP body, which carries the primary payload of the message, the SOAP header is optional and provides a mechanism for extensibles to add metadata or processing instructions.

The purpose of the SOAP header is to facilitate features such as security, transaction management, routing information, and custom application-level data.
