Slochteren
Slochteren is a village and former municipality in the province of Groningen in the northeastern Netherlands. It is located in the Midden-Groningen region. The village itself is characterized by its rural setting and the presence of the glacial erratic known as the Hunebed van Borger, though this is not strictly within the village limits. Historically, Slochteren has been associated with agriculture and peat extraction. The Dutch word "sluis" meaning sluice, is believed to be part of the origin of its name, suggesting a connection to water management.
In January 2018, Slochteren, along with other municipalities in the area, was merged into a new municipality
