Skaalaris

Skaalaris is a coastal city and port in the fictional realm of Valara. Located on Skaal Bay, it faces the open sea to the west and is protected by a natural breakwater. The city serves as a commercial and cultural hub for the surrounding region.

The name Skaalaris is derived from Skaalish terms meaning 'shore' and 'harbor.' Archaeological finds suggest settlement from the early Middle Ages, with rapid growth as a trading post during the 12th and 13th centuries. A series of fires in the 17th century led to rebuilding and a shift toward crafts.

Today Skaalaris is governed by a mayor and city council within the Valaran federation. Its economy combines fishing, shipbuilding, glassmaking, and tourism. The Glassworks Quarter and the harbor district are major employment centers; the university's maritime studies program attracts students and researchers.

Cultural life centers on the Salt and Glass Festival, held each summer, and a maritime museum. Notable landmarks include Lantern Pier, the Old Arsenal, and the Great Library, which preserves regional documents. Transport relies on the seaport, a rail link to northern cities, and a regional airport.
