Sisäkapillaarista

Sisäkapillaarista refers to a concept within capillary action, specifically focusing on the internal forces and properties of a narrow tube that influence the rise or fall of a liquid. When a liquid is in contact with a solid material, such as the inner wall of a capillary tube, adhesive forces between the liquid and solid molecules can cause the liquid to wet the surface. Simultaneously, cohesive forces within the liquid itself, the attraction between liquid molecules, play a crucial role.

The interplay of these forces determines whether the liquid will rise or be depressed within the capillary. If the adhesive forces are stronger than the cohesive forces, the liquid will climb the walls of the tube, creating a concave meniscus. This phenomenon is observed with water in glass. Conversely, if cohesive forces are stronger, the liquid will pull away from the walls, resulting in a convex meniscus and a depression of the liquid level, as seen with mercury in glass. The narrower the capillary tube, the more pronounced the effect of sisäkapillaarista becomes due to the increased surface area to volume ratio. This principle is fundamental to understanding liquid transport in porous materials and biological systems.
