Sistólicadiastólica

Sistólicadiastólica is a term that combines the concepts of systole (the heart’s pumping phase) and diastole (the filling phase) in a single descriptor. It is not a widely standardized clinical category, but rather a compound expression used in some Portuguese- and Italian-language sources to refer to conditions or findings that involve both cardiac contraction and relaxation phases, or to emphasize the interplay between these two phases in a given context.

In practice, the phrase may be employed when discussing pathophysiology or research where abnormalities affect both systolic and diastolic function, or when describing a clinical picture that cannot be fully captured by assessing systolic function alone (such as left ventricular systolic dysfunction coexisting with diastolic dysfunction). It is often contrasted with terms that specify only one phase, such as “systolic dysfunction” or “diastolic dysfunction.”

In cardiology, evaluating systolic and diastolic function typically involves separate measurements: systolic function is commonly assessed by metrics like left ventricular ejection fraction, while diastolic function is assessed using echocardiographic parameters such as the E/A ratio and E/e′, among others. When the discussion uses the term sistólicadiastólica, it should be understood as referring to combined or interrelated dysfunctions rather than to a distinct, universally recognized diagnosis.
