Sissetonwan
The Sissetonwan, often referred to as the Sisseton Dakota, are one of the two primary divisions of the Dakota people, a Native American tribe. The other division is the Santee. The Sissetonwan are further divided into two major bands, the Sisseton and the Wahpeton. Historically, their territory encompassed parts of present-day Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota. They were traditionally agriculturalists, cultivating crops such as corn, beans, and squash, and also engaged in hunting and fishing. Their society was organized into bands, with leadership typically held by chiefs chosen for their wisdom and ability.
