Sisowath

Sisowath refers to a royal house that ruled Cambodia. The most prominent figure associated with this name is Sisowath I, who reigned as King of Cambodia from 1904 to 1927. He was a successor to King Norodom. During his reign, Cambodia was under French protectorate, and Sisowath I generally worked cooperatively with the French colonial administration. His rule saw further consolidation of French influence in Cambodian affairs.

Sisowath I was born in 1840. He was the son of King Ang Eng and Queen Nak. He had several children, including Sisowath Kossamak, who later became the mother of King Norodom Sihanouk. The Sisowath dynasty played a significant role in Cambodian history during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, navigating a period of intense foreign influence and internal political shifts. The legacy of the Sisowath line continued through subsequent generations of Cambodian royalty, influencing the country's modern political landscape.
