SintTruidens

Sint-Truidens, commonly known as Sint-Truiden, is a municipality located in the Limburg province of Belgium.

Sint-Truiden is situated approximately 60 kilometers east of Brussels. The municipality is divided into the districts of Diederen, Velm, Hever and Sint-Truiden City. Sint-truiden has a total area of around 83 square kilometers and a population of approximately 40,000 people. The municipality's population is predominantly Dutch-speaking.

The town of Sint-Truiden, which was an important cultural and economic center, was first mentioned in historical records in the year 1118. Sint-Truiden was known for its Romanesque architecture and monastery complex, including a Basilica of Our Lady that still stands today. The municipality features a mix of medieval and Gothic buildings, reflecting its rich history.

Sint-Truiden is home to the Our Lady of the Rose Abbey, a construction site of two Gothic buildings from the 14th century and the ruins of a 12th-century church from the Romanesque period. Sint-Truiden is part of the local municipality that was formed on January 1, 1977, following mergers and a reaction to the administrative reform in the Flemish Region. This Community of the Sint-Truiden municipalities merged various surrounding village neighborhoods into newer town estates.

Notable events in Sint-Truiden include the Annulé musical festival, a four-day music event in the summer months.
