Simaizomszövetek, also known as smooth muscle tissue, are a type of muscle tissue found in the walls of internal organs and other structures throughout the body. Unlike skeletal muscle, which is under voluntary control, smooth muscle is involuntary, meaning its contractions are not consciously directed. This type of muscle is characterized by its smooth appearance under a microscope, lacking the striations found in skeletal and cardiac muscle.

The cells of smooth muscle tissue are elongated and spindle-shaped, each containing a single, centrally located nucleus. They are organized into sheets or layers within the walls of organs such as the digestive tract, blood vessels, uterus, and bladder. The coordinated contraction and relaxation of these muscle layers are responsible for various bodily functions, including peristalsis in the intestines, regulating blood pressure by constricting or dilating blood vessels, and expelling contents from organs like the bladder and uterus.

The contraction of smooth muscle is slower and more sustained than that of skeletal muscle. It can be stimulated by various factors, including hormones, nerve impulses, and local chemical changes. This adaptability allows smooth muscle to perform its diverse roles in maintaining homeostasis and facilitating essential physiological processes. Its presence is crucial for the functioning of numerous organ systems, contributing significantly to overall bodily health and operation.
