Signerende

Signerende is a Nordic term used in Norwegian and Danish (and related Scandinavian legal language) to refer to those who sign a document, or the act of signing itself. It functions as the present participle of the verb signere (to sign) and can be used as an adjective or as a noun. In English, the closest equivalents are signatories or signing parties.

Etymology and usage: Signerende derives from the verb signere, with a form that emphasizes the act of signing or the people involved in signing. In legal and administrative texts, signerende often appears in phrases such as “de signerende parter” or “signerende partene,” designating the parties that have signed a contract or agreement or who are bound by its terms. The term can therefore describe either the process of signing or the individuals who perform it.

Relation to other forms: The past participle form signert means “signed,” used to indicate that a document has already been signed. Signerende contrasts with underskrive or underskrift, which are more general terms for signing or a signature. In practice, signerende is most common in formal or legal writing, where the identity and actions of the signatories are relevant to the document’s validity and obligations.
