Sideledd

Sideledd is a term used in linguistics to describe a subordinate clause that modifies a noun or noun phrase, similar to an adjective. These clauses provide additional information about the noun and are often introduced by relative pronouns such as "who," "whom," "whose," "which," or "that." For example, in the sentence "The book that I borrowed is on the table," the clause "that I borrowed" is a sideledd modifying the noun "book."

Sideledds can also be introduced by interrogative pronouns or determiners in certain contexts. They function to specify or identify the noun they modify, narrowing down its meaning. Unlike main clauses, sideledds cannot stand alone as a complete sentence; they are dependent on the main clause for their grammatical completeness. The position of a sideledd is typically immediately after the noun it modifies, though variations can occur.
