Sibari

Sibari is a coastal locality in southern Italy, a frazione of the municipality of Cassano allo Ionio in the province of Cosenza, Calabria. It lies on the Ionian Sea near the Crati river delta and is connected to the surrounding region by coastal roads and regional transport routes.

century
BCE

resettled
as
Thurii
by
Athenians
in
the
mid-5th
century
BCE
and
eventually
came
under
Roman
influence.
Today
the
archaeological
area
around
Sibari
preserves
remains
associated
with
the
ancient
city
and
is
a
focus
of
research
and
tourism,
forming
part
of
the
broader
Sibaritide
landscape.
