Sheshatshius

Sheshatshius was an ancient Egyptian goddess associated with writing, scribes, and knowledge. Her name is often translated as "She who is the scribe" or "She who writes." She was considered the patron deity of scribes and was believed to have invented writing.

Her iconography varied, but she was often depicted as a woman wearing a headdress shaped like a tablet or a scribe's palette. Sometimes she was shown with a stylus and papyrus scroll, further emphasizing her connection to writing. While not as prominent as some other major deities, Sheshatshius held an important role in the intellectual and administrative life of ancient Egypt.

She was particularly revered in the New Kingdom period, and her cult center was believed to be at Per-Bast, the city of the goddess Bastet. Temples and inscriptions dedicated to her have been found, indicating her significance in religious and daily life. Scribes often invoked her blessings before beginning their work, seeking her guidance and protection in their intellectual endeavors. Her association with order, measurement, and the recording of history also linked her to the concept of divine justice and cosmic balance.
