Seroosikalvoja

Seroosikalvoja is a Finnish term that translates to "serous membranes" in English. Serous membranes are thin, protective layers that line the cavities of the body and cover internal organs. They are characterized by their smooth, slippery surface, which is essential for reducing friction between organs and allowing them to move freely.

These membranes are composed of two layers: a parietal layer, which lines the cavity wall, and a visceral layer, which covers the organ itself. Between these two layers is a small space called the serous cavity, which is filled with a small amount of serous fluid. This fluid acts as a lubricant, further reducing friction.

There are three main serous membranes in the body. The pleura surrounds the lungs, the pericardium encloses the heart, and the peritoneum lines the abdominal cavity and covers the abdominal organs. Inflammation of these membranes, known as pleurisy, pericarditis, and peritonitis, respectively, can cause pain and other symptoms.
