Serax
Serax is the brand name for oxazepam, a short-acting benzodiazepine used to relieve anxiety and agitation. Oxazepam is prescribed for short-term treatment of anxiety disorders and sometimes for alcohol withdrawal management. It acts by enhancing the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter that dampens nerve activity in the brain, producing anxiolytic and sedative effects. As with other benzodiazepines, Serax can cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, and cognitive impairment, and it carries a risk of dependence and withdrawal with prolonged use. It is a prescription medication in many jurisdictions and is subject to strict regulation and monitoring. Caution is advised when used with other central nervous system depressants, in the elderly, or in people with liver impairment or certain coexisting conditions.
