Sensorikus

Sensorikus is an adjective used in several languages to denote relations to the senses or sensory systems. In medical and scientific discourse it describes processes, structures, or data associated with perception, as opposed to motor activity. The word derives from the Latin sensus (sense) and the adjectival suffix -ikus, forming terms that are common in various linguistic contexts.

In biology and neuroscience, sensorikus components include sensory receptors in the skin, eyes, ears, tongue, nose, and internal organs, as well as sensory neurons and the central pathways that convey information to the brain for perception and interpretation. These sensorikus pathways carry data about temperature, pressure, sound, light, chemical stimuli, and proprioception. Scholarly usage often pairs sensorikus with motorikus to describe the sensory and motor branches of the nervous system, respectively, highlighting the division between sensing and action.
