Sensorflächen

Sensorflächen, also known as sensor surfaces, refer to the physical area or region where a sensor can detect and respond to a particular stimulus. This stimulus can be light, heat, pressure, motion, or any other physical phenomenon that the sensor is designed to measure. The size and shape of a sensorfläche are critical design parameters that influence the sensor's sensitivity, resolution, and field of view.

In imaging sensors, such as those found in digital cameras or smartphones, the sensorfläche is the array of pixels that capture light. The dimensions of this area, often referred to as sensor size, directly impact image quality, particularly in low light conditions and the ability to achieve shallow depth of field. Larger sensorflächen generally gather more light, leading to less noise and better dynamic range.

For other types of sensors, the sensorfläche might be a membrane that deforms under pressure, a grid that detects infrared radiation, or a specific material that changes its electrical properties in response to a chemical substance. The effective sensorfläche determines how much of the phenomenon being measured can be captured by the device at any given time.
