Sensibilitetsstörning

Sensibilitetsstörning refers to an impairment or alteration in the ability to perceive sensory information. This can affect any of the senses, including touch, sight, hearing, smell, and taste, as well as proprioception (the sense of the relative position of one's own parts of the body).

In the context of touch, sensibilitetsstörning often manifests as a diminished or lost sensation. This can involve a reduced ability to feel pressure, temperature, pain, or vibration. Conversely, it can also involve an oversensitivity, where normal stimuli are perceived as uncomfortable or painful. Paresthesia, characterized by abnormal sensations like tingling, numbness, or pins and needles, is another form of sensibilitetsstörning related to touch.

Sensibilitetsstörningar can arise from a variety of causes, including nerve damage (neuropathy), injury to the brain or spinal cord, certain medical conditions like diabetes or multiple sclerosis, and even side effects of medications. Treatment depends on the underlying cause. For some conditions, addressing the root issue may restore normal sensation. In other cases, management focuses on alleviating symptoms, improving function, and preventing further complications. Rehabilitation programs, including physical and occupational therapy, may be beneficial for individuals experiencing significant sensibilitetsstörning.
