Seeriahübriidis
Seeriahübriidis refers to a type of hybrid vehicle where the internal combustion engine primarily functions as a generator to recharge the battery pack, rather than directly powering the wheels. This arrangement distinguishes it from a parallel hybrid, where both the engine and electric motor can drive the vehicle independently or together. In a series hybrid, the electric motor is the sole source of propulsion for the vehicle. The engine's sole purpose is to maintain the battery's charge, ensuring that the electric motor always has sufficient power. This design can lead to improved fuel efficiency, particularly in urban driving conditions with frequent stops and starts, as the engine can operate at its most efficient speed and load for generating electricity. The battery pack can also be recharged from an external power source, similar to a plug-in hybrid, providing further flexibility. However, the continuous operation of the engine as a generator can sometimes be perceived as less responsive than in a parallel hybrid system, and it may not always be as efficient on the open road where continuous high speeds are maintained. Examples of series hybrid systems can be found in some range-extended electric vehicles.
