Scopeloberyx

Scopeloberyx is a genus of deep-sea fishes belonging to the family Scopelarchidae. These fishes are characterized by their elongated bodies and large eyes, adapted for life in the dimly lit mesopelagic zone. Scopeloberyx species are found in temperate and tropical waters worldwide, typically at depths ranging from 500 to 1,000 meters. They possess photophores, light-producing organs, which are thought to be used for communication, camouflage, or attracting prey. Their diet primarily consists of small crustaceans and other planktonic organisms. Little is known about their reproductive habits, but like many deep-sea fish, they are likely to have external fertilization. The genus currently includes several recognized species, each with subtle morphological differences. Their elusive nature and deep-sea habitat make them challenging to study, and much remains to be discovered about their ecological role and behavior within the ocean's depths.
