The Scipios were a prominent patrician family of ancient Rome, belonging to the *gens Cornelia*. They rose to significant influence and power during the Roman Republic, particularly in the 3rd and 2nd centuries BCE. The family is most famously associated with Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus, the victor of the Second Punic War, and his adopted grandson, Scipio Aemilianus, who led the Roman forces in the Third Punic War.
