Schwalmstadt is a town in the Schwalm-Eder district, in Hesse, Germany. It is located on the Schwalm river, about 15 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of Marburg and 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Fulda. The town was formed in 1970 by the merger of several smaller municipalities.
