Schwalmstadt

Schwalmstadt is a town in the Schwalm-Eder district, in Hesse, Germany. It is located on the Schwalm river, about 15 kilometers (9 miles) southwest of Marburg and 30 kilometers (19 miles) north of Fulda. The town was formed in 1970 by the merger of several smaller municipalities.

The history of the area dates back to the Middle Ages, with evidence of settlements from the 9th century. The town's current form is the result of a municipal reform that combined the formerly independent towns of Ziegenhain, Treysa, and several other villages.
