Scaleosta
Scaleosta is a genus of fossil cephalopods belonging to the order Nautilida. These extinct marine invertebrates are known from the Paleozoic Era, primarily the Devonian period. They are characterized by their coiled, generally planispiral shells, which are often ornamented with prominent ribs or growth lines. The shell was divided into chambers by transverse septa, and a siphuncle, a tube connecting these chambers, passed through them, likely used for buoyancy control.
The classification of Scaleosta within Nautilida is based on its shell morphology and the internal structure
