SaveluguNanton

Savelugu-Nanton is a former district located in the Northern Region of Ghana. It was established in 2004 as part of a decentralization program to improve governance and service delivery. The district was carved out of the larger West Mamprusi District. Its administrative capital was Savelugu. The district's economy was primarily based on agriculture, with staple crops including yams, maize, and millet. Livestock farming also played a significant role.

The Savelugu-Nanton District was characterized by its predominantly rural landscape and a diverse population. The area is home to various ethnic groups, with the Dagomba being the most prominent. The district faced challenges common to many rural Ghanaian districts, including access to quality education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Efforts were made by local authorities and NGOs to address these issues.

In 2018, as part of a further administrative reorganization in Ghana, the Savelugu-Nanton District was dissolved and split into two new districts: Savelugu Municipal District and Nanton District. This division aimed to bring governance closer to the people and enhance administrative efficiency within the Northern Region. The creation of these new districts reflects the ongoing process of administrative and developmental reforms in Ghana.
