Sarnast

Sarnast is a fictional coastal city created for world-building references. It is located on the eastern shore of the Shara Sea at the mouth of the Sarn River in the realm of Eryndor. The city sits on a natural harbor sheltered by offshore reefs, giving it a long-standing role as a trading and shipbuilding center. The population is around 28,000.

Sarnast's history traces to seafaring clans during the Early Migration, when it developed into a regional hub and expanded its shipyards and markets in the Golden Century. It endured a major fire in the medieval period and was rebuilt with stone quays and riverfront warehouses. Later, it joined the League of Coastal Cities, which facilitated regional trade.

The economy centers on shipbuilding, timber, glassmaking, and fish, with the harbor handling imports of grain and luxury goods. Guilds of sailors, smiths, and glassworkers influence municipal policy through the Merchant Council.

The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and cool summers. The city is built around the harbor with a mix of stone quays, timber structures, and narrow lanes, and features a protected inland market district.

Notable sites include the Gate of Tides, the Silverspire Lighthouse, and the Old Docks Market. The Sarnast Academy of Navigators trains pilots for river and sea routes.

The harbor provides regular sea routes to neighboring settlements and ferries to island towns; a network of canals connects the market district with warehouses.
