Sandland

Sandland is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama. It was originally serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from May 2000 to August 2000, spanning a total of 14 chapters collected into two tankōbon volumes. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic desert world where water is a scarce and precious resource.

The plot follows the adventures of Sheriff Rao, an aging human who is the last remaining sheriff in a desolate desert town. Faced with the ever-increasing thirst of his community and the exploitation by the greedy Water King, Rao decides to seek out the legendary Phantom Lake, a mythical oasis said to hold an abundant supply of water. To aid him in his quest, Rao enlists the help of the demon prince Beelzebub and his loyal companion, the demon demon**.** Initially reluctant, Beelzebub and his companion agree to join Rao, partly out of curiosity and partly for the promise of adventure and battle.

Together, this unlikely trio embarks on a journey across the harsh desert, facing numerous challenges, dangerous creatures, and the machinations of the Water King and his forces. The series is known for Toriyama's signature art style, humorous dialogue, and action-packed sequences, all set against a unique desert backdrop. Sandland was later adapted into an anime film released in 2023, as well as a video game.
