Salafist
Salafism is a movement within Sunni Islam that advocates a return to what its adherents believe to be the "pious predecessors" (al-salaf al-salih), specifically the first three generations of Muslims: the companions of the Prophet Muhammad, their successors, and their successors' successors. Adherents, known as Salafis, seek to emulate the practices and beliefs of these early Muslims, interpreting the Quran and Sunnah (the teachings and practices of Prophet Muhammad) according to their understanding of the Salaf.
