Saisonointi

Saisonointi is a traditional yet relatively unknown form of seasonal planning that originated in Finland. The practice has been documented to have started in the early 20th century as a means of organizing and preparing for various tasks and activities based on seasonal changes.

Saisonointi is primarily associated with rural communities in Finland where the concept was used to optimize tasks and minimize work in specific periods of the year by coordinating activities around the changing seasons. The planning is highly structured and considers various factors such as weather, daylight hours, and agricultural outputs.

A submitted plan outlines the focus on one specific activity per month or season. The subsequent tasks and activities based on those seasonal focuses were proposed for the corresponding month. Per prior tradition the plans typically saw repetition year after year. Those whose activities did not suit the season's predominant planning focus were expected to engage in light or less-intensive activities.

Scholars and historians highlight the role of seasonoiting in the historical context of Finns who lived in a relatively isolated area with significant seasonal variations. Such systems can be seen across Finland though the type of tasks and activities rotate in each area accordingly.
