Safedistance is a term used to describe the minimum recommended spatial separation between individuals to reduce the transmission of airborne or droplet-borne infectious diseases. The concept gained significant prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it was widely promoted as a public health measure.

The exact distance recommended for safedistance can vary depending on the specific pathogen, the mode of transmission, and environmental factors such as ventilation. However, a common recommendation, particularly for respiratory illnesses, has been two meters or six feet. This distance is believed to be sufficient to prevent the majority of respiratory droplets expelled during coughing, sneezing, or talking from reaching another person.

Implementing safedistance typically involves maintaining physical space between individuals in public settings, such as grocery stores, workplaces, and public transport. This can be facilitated through floor markings, altered seating arrangements, and public awareness campaigns.
