SPY1
SPY1, also known as Speedy/RINGO cell cycle regulator 1, is a small regulatory protein encoded by the SPY1 gene in humans. It is a member of the Speedy/RINGO family of CDK activators and functions to promote cell cycle progression from G1 to S phase by activating cyclin-dependent kinases, most notably CDK2, in a manner that can be independent of classical cyclins.
SPY1 facilitates the phosphorylation of substrates that drive S-phase entry, enabling a more rapid transition through
Expression of SPY1 is associated with proliferating cells and tissues and is regulated during the cell cycle.
SPY1 is part of a conserved family that includes SPY1-like proteins. The family name reflects its origin
