SILnivået
SILnivået, eller *Standard International Level*, is a standardized measurement system used primarily in the maritime industry to describe the depth of water in relation to a vessel’s draft. It is derived from the International Hydrographic Organization’s (IHO) standards and is widely adopted in navigation charts, pilotage, and maritime regulations. The SIL is calculated based on the vessel’s maximum permitted draft, which is defined by the International Convention on Load Lines (1966) and subsequent amendments.
The SIL is expressed as a numerical value, typically rounded to the nearest whole number, and represents
In practice, SILnivået is used alongside other navigational aids such as tide tables and local water depth
