SFTPA1

SFTPA1, also known as the Surfactant Protein A1, is a protein encoded by the SFTPA1 gene. It is a member of the surfactant protein family, which plays a crucial role in the maintenance of lung function. Surfactant proteins are produced by type II alveolar cells in the lungs and are essential for reducing surface tension at the air-alveolar interface, thereby facilitating respiration.

The SFTPA1 gene is located on chromosome 3q21. Mutations in this gene have been associated with various respiratory disorders, including surfactant deficiency disorders.
